A Spiral (aka Spirogram) has crossword-style clues, the answers to which the solver must enter into a grid that follows a spiral pattern, with the last letter of each answer being the first letter of the next. So essentially, the answers form a long chain of words.

Because each answer shares only two letters with other answers, Spiral can be a demanding puzzle to solve – but we can make it easier by overlapping the answers by more than one letter. We also take care to avoid setting clues that are too vague.

For an extra point of audience engagement, squares in the grid can be highlighted – perhaps in a diagonal line from one corner to another – to spell out a themed word. Guessing the word can help the solver answer clues on which they’re stuck.
